FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE MUCH OR ANY VIDEO OF ME SPEAKING
However little material you have available we are usually able to create a video to promote you as a speaker.
We use photography, and whatever clips you have, we can add on screen text and sound bites or visual quotes.
There are lots of ways to creatively promote you as a speaker.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY VIDEO BE?
Your video speaker reel can be anything from 2-4 minutes.
WHY DON'T I JUST MAKE MY OWN VIDEO?
You can make your own video of course, however, remember the purpose of this video is to show yourself as a professional speaker. What is going to do that jobs better a video your make yourself on iMovie or a professionally edited video?
I don’t need to tell you the answer here, I’m sure you already know.
SHOULD I FILM A PITCH FOR MY REEL?
There is no need to go film yourself talking about what you talk about. An event booker wont be interested to see you talking about what you can talk about.
They want to see you in action so that they can have confidence in your ability.
That can be from a photo of you on stage (try and get shots with you in relation to your audience if possible)
HOW DO I GET VIDEO OF ME SPEAKING?
If you are speaking on a big stage it is very possible that the event will be being filmed, so enquire ahead of time and ask for the footage from the filming. You can even negotiate having this as part of your invitation to be on stage.
If you are speaking at a smaller event these are not often being filmed, however, if you again enquire ahead of time you can get permission to film the event yourself.
Now this doesn’t mean you have to have a professional video crew come and film you but rather that you can set up your own camera or smartphone or laptop even to film yourself. Or you can ask a friend in the audience to film your talk.
Remember you can also film yourself presenting a workshop.
If you can’t get video then get photos, BUT these don’t do much if we don’t see the audience, you need context to the image, so ensure you get the audience in.
